Kenneth Eugene Gunter Gene, 68, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 12, 2009 at Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane, with interment to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 till 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Gene was born on April 21, 1941 to Marie B. Hankinson in Columbia, SC. Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 12, 1963 and was stationed at McCoy AFB in Orlando, FL where he met his wife Lorene Jackson Gunter. Gene was stationed at Dyess AFB in February 1974 where he stayed until his retirement in August 1985. After serving twenty-two years in the USAF he worked at Lockheed Martin for ten years. Gene was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ and was known for always bringing hot wheels to all the children, because of this he was given the nickname Hot Wheel Gene
A harder working man could not be found. Gene was an avid fisherman. He was a member of several bass clubs; Dyess, Stillwater, Abilene 35, and the Seniors Bass Clubs.
Gene is survived by his wife, Lorene Gunter; three children, Pamela Glisson and her husband, Johnny, Allen Gunter and his wife, Teena, and Christy Freeman and her husband, Glen; six grandchildren, Jade, Jayton and JohnChris Glisson, CharlesAnn, Carlee, and Ender Freeman; and his extended family in South Carolina, Orlando, FL, and Jackson, TN.
