Kermith C. Johnson, 65, passed away May 9, 2013. Visitation will be 6 till 8 PM, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Memorial service will be 10 AM, Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Parks, Garden of Remembrance.
Kermith was born on November 10, 1947, to Kermith M. and Florence C. Petersen Johnson in Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1965 he graduated from Ivanhoe High School, Ivanhoe, Minnesota. Kermith and Nancy A. Smith were married on June 7, 1968, in Brookings, South Dakota. To this union was born one son, Jeffery Scott.
Kermith grew up on a farm in Lincoln County, Minnesota. During those years he was involved in 4H with his family. Among his 4H activities, he showed cattle which became a lifelong passion.
As a young man, Kermith completed the meat cutting program at Pipestone Area Vocational. The advancement of his career led Kermith and his family to live in seven different states. In 1981 he moved to Abilene, Texas, to work as a supervisor for Gooch Packing Company. In 1996 he made a career change to trucking. He purchased his own semitractor in 1999 and since then has been driving for United Petroleum Transport. His work was always done with integrity. He also raised a small herd of cattle.
Kermith loved spending time with his family especially his grandson Zachery. His sense of curiosity brought out a sense of adventure. While he had not lived in Minnesota for many years, it was home to him. He seldom missed returning each summer to visit family.
Kermith is survived by his wife, Nancy son Jeffery Kim Johnson and grandson Zachery of Abilene, Texas two sisters, Joyce Lyle Thies of Plymouth, Minnesota, and LaVon Johnson of Chanhassen, Minnesota and numerous sistersinlaw and brothersinlaw, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leslie Johnson.
