L.A. Loy Alva Tharp was a life long resident of West Texas. He was born November 10, 1920, in Ranger, Texas, and was reared in Ranger and Thurber, Texas, before moving to the Potosi area in the mid 1930s. He graduated from Wylie High School in 1936 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Brownwood before joining the Army Air Corp in World War II. After the war he moved to Abilene and worked primarily for William Cameron Company, a wholesale door and window manufacturer.
His wife of fifty five years Ruth Lee Tharp preceeded him in death in 2006.
He leaves two daughters Billye Hiltbold of Durham, North Carolina, Bobbye Silva of Magnolia, Texas, six grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren, and a lifetime of friends.
