Larry G. Berry, 82, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully at home in hospice care after a long illness.
Born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Amarillo, Texas, he began working at an early age to help support his family. He worked all over Texas in various capacities including water well drilling, gunsmithing, shrimping, sales, and construction on the Hemisphere Tower and Amistad Dam. In later years he worked independently in all facets of the oil and gas industry and developed innovative techniques for oil exploration. He was president of Berry Exploration, LLC.
During his leisure time he learned to fly, loved music, and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, metal detecting, and lapidary. Anyone who met Larry remembers his distinctive sense of humor, his abundant generosity, and his skill as a story teller recounting tales from his many adventures.
Larry is survived by his wife Mary Berry of Abilene, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Gill Lewis and grandchildren Allison Lewis and Blake Lewis of Augusta, Georgia, and brother Charles Berry of Oklahoma.
He was predeceased by his parents C L Berry and Imogene Berry and twin sisters Velera Kulow and Vellene Michel.
His life will be celebrated in a private family memorial.
