Laverne Horn was born August 28th 1932 to Ruby McQueen Hamilton and Elwood Hamilton in Fisk, Texas. She was the third of their 6 children. She left this world on September 12, 2023. Laverne attended school at Brown Ranch and Mozelle High School, class of 1950. After high school she moved to Abilene to attend Draughn's Business School. She continued to live in Abilene where she met Charles Horn and after a short courtship they married November 28, 1954 in Eastland, Texas. They started their family which grew to include 6 children. Charles died in 1978 and Laverne moved with the two younger children to Abilene making her home there until the time of her death. She was a member of the Westgate Church of Christ. Laverne dedicated her life to her family, kids, and grandkids, consistently choosing family vacations, weekends-at-home, and her kinds and grandkids over jobs, money, and things.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Elwood Hamilton, her husband, Charles Robert Horn; her son, Charles Russell Horn (Rusty) and wife Betsy; son-in-law, Sam Peak; brothers, Alton, Mac, and Ronnie Hamilton; and her sister, Audrey Whitfield.
Survivors include her sister, Joy Chenault of Louisiana; along with her remaining 5 children, Michael Horn and wife Carmen of Abilene, Kay Musemeche and husband Rick of Stamford, Brenda Peak of Abilene, Terri Robertson of Abilene, and Robin Carpenter and husband Larry of Abilene. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren, April and husband Chad Burrell, Chris and wife Roxanne Horn, Charles and wife Biannca Robertson, Shonna Peak, Scott Horn, Sarah and husband KC Lucas, Krista and husband Michael Monsey, Jessica Buck, Jesse Peak, Charles and wife Selena Horn, Cal Horn, Chelsa Carpenter and partner Mark Martinez, Kayla Carpenter, Hannah and husband Chris Beal and Mary Horn along with 17 great-grandchildren Angel Horn, Blake Robertson, Mallory Robertson, McKenna Dill, Tristan Beal, Ryker Dill, Brandon Horn, McKayla Dill, Addison Lawson, Axton Lawson, Jacob Monsey, Sterling Peak, Everly Beal, Willow Martinez, Sarahbeth Horn, Olivia Beal, and Joshua Horn. And many beloved nieces and nephews.
Laverne lived a full and happy life she loved her large family and was always happiest when surrounded by them.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2023 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
