Laverne Thomas

Laverne Elizabeth Thomas, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Willow Springs Nursing Home, just days short of her 90th birthday. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Abilene Municipal Cemetery.

Laverne was born May 5, 1926 in Abilene, Texas to Zach and Allie Rose Simmons Leverett. She and A.H. Thomas were married in 1945 and to that union was born one daughter Patricia Williams of Abilene, TX.

Laverne loved reading, especially scripture. She loved flowers and watching birds and enjoyed visiting with friends. She was a homemaker and a member of Hope Eternal of Abilene.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; one brother, Paul Leverett, and one sister, Ella Mae Irwin of Coleman.

She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Barton Williams of Abilene; two grandchildren, Rodger Williams of Arlington, and Laurie Tatom and spouse Marquis of Abilene; three great-grandsons, one great great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
