Lawanda Rogers

LaWanda Henley Rogers, 70 passed away February 23, 2018 in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00 AM, Monday, February 26, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A graveside funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, Monday at Elmwood Memorial Park.

LaWanda was born April 7, 1947 in Abilene to parents, John H Henley, Sr and Alta Marie Lawlis Henley. She grew up and then graduated in 1965 from Abilene High School. She worked for numerous businesses in the accounts payable and the payroll departments. She was currently employed by Lone Star Truck Group/Corley Wetsel Freightliner, where she was the warranty manager for 17+ years.

LaWanda married Kenneth Dale Rogers on April 20, 1968, at University Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas. They made their home in Clyde, Texas, where they resided for 29 years, before moving to Abilene. They welcomed their only child, Ann Marie, in December of 1976. LaWanda loved being a mother; room mom, chauffeur, or supervising the swimmers in her backyard; she did it all. She loved to travel and make memories with her family, from Walt Disney World to Las Vegas and everything in between; she enjoyed every minute.

She was a "doer" and "go getter." If there were things to be done, parties to plan, or tasks to be checked off a to do list; you wanted LaWanda to be the one to help. If LaWanda couldn't complete the task at hand; it's likely the task was unattainable in the first place. If the task was possible to be done, she would take care of it. If it was on sale or could be done cheaper, she would definitely strike a bargain to attain a better deal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. Henley, Sr. & Alta Marie Lawlis Henley; and her brother, John H. Henley, Jr.

LaWanda is survived by her husband, Kenneth D. Rogers; her daughter, Ann Marie Smith and husband, Jason; three grandchildren, Kendell LeeAnn Foreman, Garet Smith, and Travis Smith; and close family friends, the Gallagher's of Clyde, Texas
