Lawrence "Larry" Mason, beloved son of Lambert Mason and Mary Mason, was born on January 9, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. He passed away on January 14, 2024, in his hometown. Larry's life was filled with remarkable experiences and genuine connections that left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Larry's journey started after serving four years in the Navy, where he displayed bravery and dedication to his country. Following his military service, Larry pursued a career at sea, working on a tuna boat for several years. Later he joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as an electrician on a boat tasked with surveying the ocean floor. His expertise and passion for his work were evident in everything he did.

While Larry was known for his professional accomplishments, it was his kindheartedness, infectious laughter, and larger-than-life personality that truly set him apart. He had an appetite like no other. Larry could outeat guys twice his size without breaking a sweat. 

In addition to his culinary feats, Larry possessed a wide range of interests and hobbies. He had a knack for landscaping with decorative rock and gardening, creating beautiful green spaces wherever he went. Alongside his green thumb, Larry spent countless hours engrossed in books and creating intricate puzzles that challenged the minds of others. Furthermore, his artistic talents were unmatched; Larry was able to draw pictures so realistic they resembled photographs.

Larry is proceeded in death by his father Lambert Mason; mother Mary Mason; brother Don Mason; and nephew Jerry Mason.

Larry is survived by his brother Robert Mason; niece Jessie Caffey; great-niece Elora Mason; as well as cousins Ken and Carol Ramey. Their lives were enriched by Larry's presence and will forever carry memories of his warmth and love in their hearts.

In honor of Larry's memory, a graveside service will be held on January 29, 2024 at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather and pay tribute to a remarkable individual whose light continues to shine brightly even in his absence.
