Leon Whaley Jr.

Rev. Leon E. Whaley, Jr., 72 years old passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Hendricks Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at New Light Baptist Church, 518 North 6th St., Abilene, Texas, with Rev. Eddie Jordan officiating.

Leon E. Whaley, Jr. was born March 11, 1943 to Leon E. Whaley, Sr. and Dorothy Turner Whaley in Fort Worth, Texas Tarrant County. Rev. Whaley and his family moved to Los Angeles, CA where he attended school. After graduation he served in the United States Army serving as a Military Policeman. Having completed his duty assignment, he returned to Los Angeles and attended Compton Junior College and Bethany Bible College. Rev. Whaley was baptized at an early age and served dutifully at New Morning Star Baptist Church, Lynwood CA, where he served in many capacities. He was ordained as a deacon and later as an associate Pastor before moving back to Texas. After returning to Texas he joined the New Light Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Eddie Jordan and the late Senior Pastor Leo Scott. Rev. Whaley was asked to serve as pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his death. Rev. Whaley worked in many grocery stores until he became employed with Kraft Foods, Inc. as a salesman. He received many awards, accolades, and trips for his selling ability. Organizations he participated in are: Masonic Mason, ICAN, Meals on Wheels, Prison Ministry, Big Brothers, and Greater Abilene Ministries Alliance (GAMA).

Left to celebrate his passing are his wife: Alice Dade Whaley of the home; Daughters: Lashaun Lewis (Maurice) of Carson, CA; Monea Winbush, of Long Beach, CA; Camille Dixson(Ronald) of Las Vegas, NV; Son: Berlin Edmond of Downy CA; Sisters: Helen Booker(Rev. Tony) of Harbor City, CA, Mattie Bryant of Culver City, CA; Elaine Whaley of Hawthorne, CA; Dorothy Moore(Garrett) of Lancaster, CA; Brother: Terrance Whaley(Naj) of Lake Mathew, CA. Grandchildren: Alexandrea and Darian Curl of Carson, CA; Clark Winbush of Long Beach, CA; Taylor and Tori Dixson of Las Vegas, NV; Britani and Berlin Edmond, of Cypress, CA. A host of nieces, nephews, Great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members and sisters-In-law; Dorothy Wiseman and Corrine Hill of Abilene, TX.

Awaiting Rev Whaley for a family reunion are his father and mother, Leon Whaley, Sr. and Dorothy G. Whaley.
