Leonard Eudean Foster passed away on June 22, 2011 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas at the age of 86 years. Services will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home at 5750 Hwy. 277 South in Abilene at10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 25, 2011 with Pastor Jeff Hatcher presiding. Graveside services will follow later that afternoon at the family plot at Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, Texas. Visitation will be held on June 24, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home.
He was born on the family farm between Spring and Valley Creeks in the Happy Valley Community to Soloman Jahue and Cary Virginia Foster on November 15, 1924. He was the grandson of Thomas Wallace Foster and Missouri Adeline Foster. After graduation from Wingate High School, he later enlisted in the United State Marine Corp. He served honorably with the Second and Sixth Marine Divisions in the South Pacific battles for the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and other duty on Guadalcanal and Guam. He took great pride in being a United States Marine.
Upon his return from World War II, he later married Wanda Smith on July 4th, 1948 in Ballinger, Texas. They were married for 51 years with Wanda passing away on September 8, 1999. They raised four sons Rick and wife Sally of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Tommy and wife Sharon of Abilene, Texas, Terry and wife Brenda of Abilene, Texas, and Rex and wife Darla of Allen, Texas. He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren Elizabeth Battista and husband Mark of Burkburnett, Texas, Melissa Hughey of Bentonville, Arkansas, Kristen and husband Scott Schwertner of Lake Jackson, Texas, Kelly Chambers and husband Chad of Grand Prairie, Texas, Kent Foster and wife Courtney of Union Town, Pennsylvania, Erin Foster of College Station, Texas, Kayla Foster of Lubbock, Texas, and Paige and Allen Foster of Allen, Texas. He also had 6 great grandchildren. He worked in a variety of occupations in the early years including farming and ranching and county road maintenance, but his primary occupation was as a truck driver for Merchants Fast Motor Lines for over 31 years traveling over 2 million miles.
Upon Wandas passing, he married the second love of his life Louise Howard Farr. Louise passed away on July 4th, 2010. His extended family from that marriage included Ronnie and Linda Cheek of Abilene, and Larry and Gelora Farr of Abilene, their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by all four of his sons and their families and a brother, Don, of Buffalo Gap. He was predeceased by his brothers Troy, Lawrence Odell Tooter, and Bill.
Eudean was a long time member of Wylie United Methodist Church and the Builders Sunday School Class. The family asks any remembrances or memorials be made to Wylie United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be: J.L. Wheat, Billy Walker, Johnny Walker, Pete Martin, Jesse Edmondson, members of Builders Sunday School Class.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Christopher Trauth, Dr. Udaya Swarna, and the nurses and staff on the 6th Floor at Hendrick Medical Center that made his 3 month stay there bearable especially Christy and Jamie. We also want to thank Andrea Foster for the many opportunities she provided Eudean to enjoy the company of his brother Don over the past months.
