Our beloved, Lillie Sara Calloway was called home to glory on December 30, 2014 at the age of 79.
Visitation will be at Elmwood Chapel Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 4pm 6pm. Funeral Services will be at 11 am, Monday, January 5, 2015 at Elmwood Chapel with Rev. Robert Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Sara Hill was born January 1, 1935 in Dry Branch, Ga. She was the youngest and only daughter of Bennie Lee and Aretha Marie Hill. Her grandparents Rev. Illinois and Lillie Bonds of Andersonville, GA raised Sara till the age of 13. She grew up in Macon, GA where her family were prominent members of Stone Creek Baptist Church.
On May 28, 1959, Sara married Fred Calloway Sr. of Dothan Al in Macon, Ga. Fred served in the US Air force. In the early 1960s, the family moved to the Philippines where Fred was stationed. In 1966, the Calloway family was relocated to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX where they raised their family and continued to build a life together.
Early in her career, Sara worked at Timex Corporation and later, transitioned to Texas Instruments where she retired. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Her longtime friends are Doris Brown, Debra Anderson and the Kershaw family. After the passing of her husband Fred Calloway in 1991, she became the primary caregiver of her son Ricky until his passing in 2009. Sara was a devout mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord, her family and shopping. She was a fashionista and could accessorize like nobodys business.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband Fred Calloway Sr. and sons Ricky Calloway Walls and Fred Calloway Jr. father and mother Bennie and Marie Hill her older brother, Robert Lee Hill and a adopted sister Annie Maude Collins. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Karen Y David Moore of Abilene, TX Robin T Sandra Walls of Abilene, TX Sonja R Larry Hunter of Columbus, Ohio Seannee Q Carl Horton of Universal City, TX her brother, James H .Hill of Macon, Ga. Sisterinlaw, Clara Hill of Macon, Ga. brotherinlaw, Joe H Calloway of Northville Detroit, MI. 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren who affectionately knew her as Big Mama and Granny. She also has numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
