Lina Musgrave, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Abilene, Texas. Born on October 25, 1943, to Bernardo and Elena Magbanua in the Philippines, Lina’s life was a tapestry woven with love, talent, and dedication. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 6:00 PM with a rosary starting at 7:00 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be Friday, August 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 837 Jeanette St. Interment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
In her early years, Lina graced the airwaves as a beloved radio soap actress and singer, captivating audiences with her beautiful soprano voice. Her radiant spirit and talent shone brightly helping her meet and marry the love of her life, MSGT Donald Musgrave. The couple were united in marriage on December 17, 1969, in Cebu, Philippines.
As a dedicated military wife, Lina embraced the journey of relocation, which eventually led the couple to settle in Abilene, Texas. This charming town soon became their cherished home, where Lina’s vibrant personality and kindness made her a local celebrity.
For over 33 years and 9 months, Lina served as the membership greeter at Sam’s Club, becoming a beloved fixture in the community. Her warm smile and welcoming presence greeted countless members, making her the longest-serving employee in Sam’s Club and Wal Mart history. Lina was personally hired by Sam Walton's headquarters, and she cherished the connection she had with Mr. Walton himself.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lina was a woman of many passions. She loved to dance and was known for her enchanting soprano voice that brought joy to all who heard her sing. Lina was a proud and devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where her faith and love for her community were ever-present.
Above all, Lina’s greatest joy was her family. She was the queen of their hearts, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a cherished friend. Her legacy of love, warmth, and generosity will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Lina is survived by her children, Donald Musgrave Jr. and wife Tasha, Brian Scott Musgrave, Antonia Jarvis, Naneth Melcher and husband John; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Khira, Logan, Loralye, Beau, Jackson, Lisa, John Jr; her sister, Elesa Balbanera; and extended family and friends.
Lina Musgrave leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories, a testament to a life lived with grace, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
