Lois Wilson

January 23, 1922 — December 24, 2017

Carol Wilson, 95, passed away Sunday, December 24 at a local nursing home. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be 2:30 PM Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

She was born January 23, 1922 in Belton, Texas to Leland H. and Lois P. Phillips. She married the love of her life, James A. (Jim) Wilson, on July 1, 1950.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Fitzgerald and Larry of Abilene, Susan Watson and Bill of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Christina Fitzgerald of Abilene and Lance Fitzgerald of Dallas; two sisters, Flora Turner of Sugarland and Pat Jones and Bob of Sugarland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leland Phillips, her mother, Lois Phillips, her step-mother, Ovella Phillips and her husband, James (Jim) Wilson.

Carol was an accomplished artist, potter, sculptor, and elementary school librarian. She graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor with a degree in art. During World War II she worked at McCloskey Hospital using occupational art therapy to help amputees. After the war she was an art demonstrator for Milton Bradley travelling the Southwest. She met the love of her life, Jimmy, on the first day of first grade and they married in Gulfport, Mississippi on July 1, 1950. After raising a family, she worked 18 years for Valley View Elementary as a librarian. She was known for teaching puppeteering in the classroom and Bible class. She loved to swim, water ski, ride horses, scuba dive, snow ski, travel, garden, quilt, knit, visit with friends and family, and was always ready for a new adventure. Everybody who met her loved her. She was a long-time member of the Woodlawn Church of Christ.
