Lorene Gunter

Lorene J. Gunter, 74, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2020 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Lorene was born March 19, 1945 to Wesley and Mattie Jackson in Haleyville, Alabama. At the age of four her father Wesley passed away. Lorene’s mother married Nimon Guthrie and he became the father that raised her. On October 4, 1964 Lorene married Kenneth Eugene Gunter and the couple spent 45 wonderful years in marriage until his passing on October 8, 2009. Lorene managed BDalton Bookseller for ten years. She was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ since 1996. Above all, Lorene loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and her great granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother; Harold “Jack” Jackson; and her sister, Fayrene Callahan.

Lorene is survived by her children, Pamela Virgina Gunter Glisson, Allen Eugene Gunter and his wife Teena, and Christy Freeman and her husband Glen; grandchildren, Jade Lorene Glisson, Jayton Young Glisson, JohnChris Glisson, CharlesAnn Virginia Raney and her husband Reed, Carlee Mae Freeman, and Glen Freeman III “Ender”; great grandchild, Journey Bonner; brothers, Bill Jackson, Nimon “Buster” Guthrie, Wendell Guthrie, Robert Guthrie, and Roger Guthrie; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Guthrie, Jayton Glisson, Ender Freeman, Reed Rainey, Carson Gentry, and Steven Parker.
