Louis Glen Mutt Cook, 86, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 14th at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 S. Pioneer Dr with burial following in the Garden of Ten Commandments at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Mr. Cook was born in Nolan, Texas on December 21, 1924 the son of James Addison Jim Cook and Pearl Perkins Cook. He spent his childhood in Nolan where he developed a great love for agriculture while growing up on the family farm. In 1942, he graduated from Divide High School and shortly after entered the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Cowpens during WWII. He married Lea Catherine Harris on June 4, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Glen enjoyed a long career as a Cotton Merchant through his company LG Cook and Company Incorporated and was a long time member of the Texas Cotton Association. He remained passionate and involved with agriculture his entire life and always enjoyed spending time in the country driving the tractor or just checking on his land and livestock. He had been a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church since 1959.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Katy of Abilene two children, James C. Jim Cook and wife Laura of San Antonio, Glenda Cook Hart and husband Phil of Nashville, Tennessee six grandchildren, Clellan, Connor and wife Kelly, McKenzie, and Callie Cook and Lea and Addison Hart three nieces, Leigh White, Willard Ann Hamilton and Lois Catherine Smock.
