Louise Clara Siewert Swiedom, 90, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 in Arizona. Her funeral service with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd. with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Swiedom was born on December 21, 1918 in Strawn the daughter of Louis Siewert and Clara Hohhertz Siewert. She worked as a hairdresser before her marriage to Herbert B. Swiedom on February 27, 1939 after which she dedicated her life to the care of her family. Louise was always active and involved in her community and in the lives of her children. She volunteered her time as a leader with both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and in support of her husbands career was apart of the Ladies Auxiliary in the National Association of Letter and Rural Carriers. After her children left home she became active in the Abilene Garden Club and was proud to have earned her place as a National Accredited Judge of Flower Shows. As a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school, VBS and was a Walther League leader. She had lived in Arizona near her daughter since November of 2003.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Lloyd B. Swiedom and wife Sally of Houston; her daughter, Cynthia Hunter and husband Ed of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Leslie Swiedom of Atlanta, Georgia, Todd Swiedom and Corey McKewen both of Houston; two brothers, Alvin Siewert and wife Jo and Clarence Siewert and wife Ann all of Abilene; one sister, Ella Epperson of Redlands, California and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her husband, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.
