Louise Cheatham Vaughan, 88, died after a short illness in Knoxville, Tennessee where she had lived since 2004.
She was preceded in death by Charles F. Chuck Vaughan, her beloved husband of 54 years her parents, Carl and Allie Cly Francis Cheatham her sister, Lee Ora Cheatham Johnson her brothersinlaw, Dale Hulett, Jim Sheppard, and Howard Johnson and her niece, Caroline Cheatham.
She is survived by her children, Frances Vaughan and Don Wheeler of Knoxville, Tennessee and Charlie and Robin Vaughan of Woodinville, Washington. Her grandchildren include David and Sallie Wheeler and their sons, Thomas and Matthew, of Charlotte, Elaine Wheeler and Dale Bayless of Raleigh, Meredith Vaughan and Russell Everett of Seattle, Allison Vaughan of Seattle and Naomi Vaughan of Chicago. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Cheatham Sheppard of Austin and Ann Cheatham Hulett of Abilene her brother and sisterinlaw, Carl and Joyce Cheatham of Clyde and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
As a military wife, Louise kept the home fires burning while Chuck was in the Army Air Corps during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the cold war and beginning development of the aerospace industry. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, Pensacola, Florida, Alamogordo, New Mexico, Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Lancaster, California Edwards AFB. After his military retirement, they lived for many years in Fountain Valley, California where Louise taught school and Chuck continued his career in aerospace. She is remembered by many dear friends from those years, including Lorene Dugan. They finally retired to Abilene in 1985 where she continued to enjoy needlework, gardening, cooking, her pets, and offering hospitality to family and friends.
Louise loved her family above all things on earth and was well loved by all of them. A lifelong Christian, she was a member of University Church of Christ in Abilene. She was always prayerful and faithful to her Lord and her spiritual outlook and comfort was a witness to many.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 28th in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
