Lowell Bateman

April 17, 1923 — December 20, 2011

Lowell F. Ted Bateman, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 23rd at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake RD. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Ted was born on April 17, 1923 in Panhandle, Texas and came to the Abilene area at a young age where he grew up on the family farm and graduated from McCauley High School. He served in the U.S. ArmyAir Corp during WWII. Ted worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service for 32 years and in the mail room at the Abilene State School for 6 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Church of the Nazarene. Ted enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He remained passionate about farming throughout his life working the family farm in McCauley for many years and later farming in Tuscola.

Survivors include his wife who he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage with on December 30th, Jean Bateman of Abilene son, Lowell James Bateman and wife Nora and daughter, Tedra Bateman all of Abilene two grandchildren, Brandon Bateman and Cecilia Bateman and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one brother, Harley D. Bateman and a sister, Maurine Sell preceded him in death.
