LTC James "Jim" T. Zumwalt, 86, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in Abilene.

A visitation will be held Sunday, May 12, 2019 from 4 to 6 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 at 11 AM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Jim was born on January 8, 1933 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to the late Arthur Leroy Zumwalt and Kathryn Stonum Zumwalt. He married Ruth Barron on June 5, 1954 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jim served his country in the US Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 27 years. He held a master's degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University. Jim went on to teach math at Cooper High School until his retirement and was chosen as the dedicatee for the 1994 Talisman Yearbook. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed singing. Jim was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and a member of the choir. He served with the Methodist Food Pantry and Meals On Wheels. Jim was an extrovert and loved to make people laugh with his jokes. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Zumwalt; his children, Taran T. Harraghy, Kathryn Lynne Orchekowski and husband Randy, James B. Zumwalt and wife Sharon; grandchildren, David Kelly Harraghy, Travis Zumwalt, Jamie Ellmore, Molly Miller; great-grandchildren, Donovan Harraghy, Jonathan Ellmore, Josiah Ellmore, Aaron Ellmore, Paige Zumwalt, Adaline Zumwalt; sister, Jane Grossman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Jim was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Zumwalt.
