Mabel Sodin

Mabel Smith Sodin, 91, passed away Wednesday December 10, 2008 at her home in Abilene. Her memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday December 13, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Friday December 12, 2008 from 5:30 till 7:00 PM with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Mabel was born October 14, 1917 in Dallas, TX to Louis Sebastian and Maude Schmucker. She was a lifetime Catholic and member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed attending at University Baptist Church. Mabel loved life which was exhibited in her contagious smile. She was absolutely devoted to her children, grandchildren and her extended family that loved to hang out at 1402 Elmwood Drive. She spent a great deal of time volunteering. She also loved her friends in Red Hats, Bunco Babes, and Birthday Club, and Rose Park Sr. Citizen Center where she led exercise classes. So many came to know and love her thru her many part-time jobs; delivering beauty supplies and being a beauty salon receptionist.

Mabel is survived by six children, Dolly Gremminger and husband Charles, Stephen L. Smith and wife Dana, Debby Krpec and husband Larry, Sandi Smith Davis, Doug Smith and wife Jamie, and Sheri Smith; seventeen grandchildren, Brett Thurman, Scott Thurman and wife Tammy, Riki Bryan, Stephanie Locke and husband Cory, Jerimiah Smith and wife Jennifer, Jason Long and wife Lauren, Jennifer Long, Kaci Krpec, Chaz Davis, Jared Davis, Kelli Davis, Caleb Smith and wife Taryn, Austin Smith and wife Lex, Tad Thompson, Traci Mathews, Whitney Werner and husband Clint, and Lee Chapman; Thirteen great-grandchildren, Joanne Arrazolla, Garett Thurman, Ashley Rogers, Justin Rogers, Taylor Rogers, Tanner Martin, Canaan Mathews, Ryder Mathews, Zoey Mathews, Van Werner, Christopher Locke, Lucy Locke, and Akaia Thompson; two great great-granchildren, Kalee and KC Mathews; one sister, Cecil Callahan; one cousin, Julie Wallace; and Several Nieces and Nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husbands, H. Lee Smith and Harry Sodin; Daughter, Susan Lee Chapman; two sons-in-law, Don Thurman and Chapy Chapman; one grandson, Brandon Krpec; one brother, Bud Schmucker; and dear friend, Dottie Davis.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be sent to, Hendrick Hospice Care, Meals on Wheels of Abilene, Rose Park Senior Citizen Center, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and University Baptist Church
