Mac Bowman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, and Navy veteran, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 82 in Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside service will begin immediately following at 1:00 PM in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born on March 20, 1942, in Abilene, Texas, to Lee and Pearl Bowman, Mac's early years were marked by adventure and resilience as his family followed the crops, shaping his character in the rugged landscapes of the Big Country and other areas.
Mac answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy. He bravely served in different parts of the world most of his duty was on a mine sweeper, earning the nickname "Tex" among his comrades for his Texas roots and unwavering determination.
Throughout his life, Mac found joy in the simple pleasures, especially in the company of his beloved wife, Barbara Bowman, whom he married November 23, 1973. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Mac had a passion for the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing in serene waters and hunting in the vast Texas landscapes, he was also a very good cook and liked to garden. Mac was a Masonry contractor, owning Bowman’s Masonry for many years, and worked around Abilene and many ranches in the Big Country. He was a master /funny storyteller, with his tales of adventure and humor. His infectious laughter and quick wit made him a cherished friend to many.
Above all, Mac's greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a doting grandfather, great and great-great grandfather. His unconditional love and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lee and Pearl; daughter, Rebecca Ashton; grandson, John Channing Andersen; and granddaughter, Felisha Boisjolie; his in-laws, JC and Vivian Gross; and one nephew, Troy Panagakis.
Mac is survived by his wife, Barbara Bowman; his children, Regina Rice and husband Charlie, Ramona Andersen, and James Richard Bidwell; grandchildren, Lacresha Casarez, Lawana Caywood, and Chase Bidwell and wife Andrea; 12 great grandchildren; 9 ½ great great grandchildren; sister, Betty Hardin; nieces and nephews, Roy Hardin and wife Rachel, Michael Hardin and wife Cindy, Seretha Hardin, and Charlsie Kay Hardin; and several great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mac Bowman's legacy lives on through the fond memories he created and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
