Marcus Edwin Fenner, 90, slipped gently into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home in Abilene. Marcus was born April 24, 1926 in Holliday, TX to K.L. and Lula Bertrand Fenner. At the time of his death, Marcus was a member of Wylie Baptist Church in Abilene.
He was a 1943 graduate of Albany High School, and following graduation, served his country faithfully as a member of the United States Navy Construction Batallion (SEABEES) in the South Pacific from 1943-1946.
Marcus married the love of his life, Emma Jean Peters, on February 21, 1947, and they had two children; a son Terry, who preceded them in death in 1972, and a daughter, Kristie, whom they adopted in 1963 when she was just three days old.
Marcus accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on March 18, 1951. He spent more than 50 years of his adult life serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in the churches he and his wife attended.
He served in various positions with the El Paso Natural Gas Company for more than 45 years, and retired in 1983; he was always known as a man of integrity with a strong work ethic, an inexhaustible sense of humor and a smile for anyone he greeted.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister and brother, and his son.
Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are: his daughter, Kristie Lea Carpenter and her husband Dan, of Abilene, TX; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, February 23, at Wylie Baptist Church, 6097 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX.
Funeral services - entrusted to Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park - are scheduled for noon on Thursday, February 23, at Wylie Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
