Margarito Lopez

Margarito Mike Lopez, 81, passed away March 15, 2013 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6 till 8 PM, Monday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 2 PM, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Margarito was born in Hamlin, TX to Jose Lopez and Simona Torres Lopez. He grew up working the fields of cotton in the area and traveled with his family as migrant farm workers in the 1950s. He married Andrellita Gonzalez in 1949 in Munday, TX. In 1953, they moved to Abilene where they raised their 5 children. His greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved playing golf with his sons, going to eat menudo on weekends at Hernandez Bakery and meeting with his pals for coffee and doughnuts every morning at AM Doughnuts.
Mike is survived by one daughter, Margie Reeder of Arlington four sons, Antonio and wife Irene of DeSoto, Ruben of Houston, David of Abilene, Andy and wife Irma of Abilene two brothers, Guadalupe of Albuquerque, Antonio of Pharr two sisters, Josephina Lopez of Abilene, Mary Dennis Villarreal of Dallas eleven grandchildren twentysix great grandchildren and special friend, Sally Fernandez and her family.
