Mario Diaz

Mario Diaz, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM followed by a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mario was born on January 13, 1960 to Filegonio and Susana Martinez Diaz in Oaxaca, Mexico. He came to the United States when he was seventeen. He worked in California, Arizona, and New Mexico before moving to Texas in 1980. He married Isabel Rodriguez in 1984 in Abilene where they have continued to live and raise their family. He worked at the Abilene Country Club and Pepsi for several years and has been self-employed with his rental property business for the last 30 years. He was a member of St Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. Mario never met a stranger and could be found most mornings at AM Donuts with his friends. He enjoyed gardening, watching soccer, and never missed his Novelas but some of his greatest joys came while listening to and watching his children perform in the Abilene High Band. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by all of them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Filegonio Diaz; and two brothers, Matias Diaz and Emidio Diaz.

Mario is survived by his wife, Isabel Diaz; two children, Richie Diaz, and Laura Diaz; two stepchildren, Christina Turner, and Vinicio Garcia; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Susana Martinez; three sisters, Blanca Diaz, Celsa Diaz, and Agelina Diaz; three brothers, Felix Diaz, Albino Diaz, and Onorio Diaz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
