Marshall Mims

November 7, 1952 — August 3, 2021

Marshall Monroe Mims, 68, of Abilene, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in Whitewright, Texas.

Marshall was born on November 7, 1952 in Crane, Texas to Gene Marshall and Ramona Gene Key Mims. The family later moved to Lubbock, and then to Roosevelt where Gene was a coach. Marshall attended school there, and was a "trainer" for the football team. He loved riding his bike to visit other coaches who lived in the community, especially when they asked him to join them for dinner! He worked for "My Car Wash" in Lubbock, and for Goodwill and Burger King in Abilene. He was a hard worker and did the yard work for his parents. He also liked to push his lawnmower around the neighborhood and mow lawns for extra money. He made sure to keep the pecans picked up and shelled so that we all had plenty to enjoy. He led a very active life. He enjoyed playing sports with his brother in-laws and friends. He loved to hike with family on vacations to Big Bend National Park, as well as going to check the cows and going fishing. When he was young, he looked forward to riding horses with cousins and other family. He enjoyed watching westerns including Gunsmoke, Lone Ranger, Rifleman, and his favorite which was High Chaparral. He had a memory like no other, and could spend hours discussing film and TV trivia with his nieces and nephews. Marshall loved Jesus and often told us that he asked Him to be his Savior at the age of 11 years old. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitewright.

Marshall is survived by his mother, Ramona Mims; siblings, Tammy Tallman, Cindy McLeod and husband James, Tonya Slack and husband Joel, Teresa Allison and husband Rex; nephews and nieces, Eric Tallman and wife Sarah, Ramona Nelson and husband Brandon, Tiffany and Lisa McLeod, Michael, Kenneth, and Danielle Slack, and Ashley Fisher; great nieces and nephews, Gavin and Carter Nelson, Bryson and Slade Tallman.

He is preceded in death by his father Gene Mims, and his brother in-law Steve Tallman.
