Martha Jones

Martha Jean Jones, 85, of Breckenridge, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in her home in Abilene Texas. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Pioneer Baptist Church at 701 S. Pioneer Dr., Abilene, Texas. The visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South with Minister Larry Jones officiating.

Martha was born on February 15, 1936 in Aquilla, Texas, to parents Amos and Jimmy Lee Davenport and raised by Florence McCreary. She went to Booker T. Washington High School in Breckenridge, Texas. Shortly after high school, she married Tommy Lee Jones, Sr. on August 19, 1955.

Martha worked at Stephen's Memorial Hospital as a Housekeeper for many years before becoming a business owner. In the 1970s, Tommy and Martha opened Jones Cleaners in Breckenridge and operated it for 15 plus years. After closing the cleaners, she began working at Walmart as a Service Desk Supervisor in Breckenridge. In 1991, Martha moved to Abilene, Texas to be closer to family and help take care of her grandchildren. Martha transferred to Walmart in Abilene, where she worked for 6 years. In 1997, she started working as the Administrative Assistant of the family business, Southwest Home Health Care where she retired from in 2019.

Martha was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Texas and when she moved to Abilene she attended St. Paul (Pasadena Heights Community Church).

Martha loved her family and friends, the Dallas Cowboys, and the 44th President of The United States of America, President Barack Obama. You could always find her sitting on the front porch or the back patio enjoying the weather and warming up. She also enjoyed cheering on her grandkids and great-grandkids in their extracurricular activities.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Jimmy Lee Davenport and Florence McCreary; her son, Marcus; her grandchildren, Larry Jr., Mylliah, Gregory Jr., Edward, and Brandon; her sisters, Kari Williams, Willie Lee Brooks, Annie Louise Goodman, Ruth Cavanaugh, Edna Nowlin King, Stella Mae McCreary, Jennie Modica, Bertha Bell McCreary, and Tommie Jean Jones; and her brothers, Robert Davenport, Joseph Earl Davenport, Pearl McCreary, John D. McCreary, and John T. Jones.

Martha is survived by the father of her children and her best friend, Tommy Lee Jones, Sr., along with her loving children, Lonnie Jones of Abilene, Larry Jones (Sondra) of Lubbock, Tommy Lee Jones, Jr. (April) of Cedar Hill, Gregory Jones, Sr. (Treva) of Duncanville, Tonya Hunter (Petty) of Abilene, Kimala Scarlett (Greg) of Abilene, and Felix Jones, Sr. (Victoria) of New Orleans; sisters Velma Harkley of Breckenridge, Eula Mae Herring of Los Angeles, and Viola Davenport of Abilene, Annie Washington (Willie) of Abilene, and Ann Hall of Graham; brother, LV Hawkins (Darlene) of Graham; and loved ones, Autry Blakes of Abilene, Regina Jones of Desoto, and the McCreary family.

She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, Venetta (Chris), Mellani (Mitch), Tyeashia (Grant), Daphne (Patrick), Tarik (Dedra), Tangi (Marcus), Mary, Channelle (Stephen), Shamika, Robert Paul, Taniqua (Norman), Stormye, Tommy III (Tiffany), Darrick (Andrea), Darren, Shalonda (Darrell), Erick, Kourtnee (Kerwin), Justin (Jasmine), Felix Jr., Keith, Tiffany (David), Jimmye Jr., Rivian, Tevin, Xavier, Kira, Tyler, LaKysha, and Omari.

Martha also leaves behind 63 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Repass will be at New Light Baptist Church, 518 N 6th Street.
