Martha Lerma Mendoza, 68, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 in Abilene. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 23rd at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 5:00 PM with Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM and Wake Service beginning at 7:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Martha was born on July 28, 1943 in Laredo the daughter of Faustino Lerma and Elia Martinez Lerma. She married Alberto Mendoza Sr. on November 9, 1963. Throughout her work life, Martha had worked in Day Care and as a custodian at both AISD and Sears Methodist Centers. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a devoted member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. She loved cooking and using her artistic talents making jewelry, tshirts and various crafts.
Martha was well loved by everyone. Her joyful spirit and her heart of gold, reflected in her beautiful smile that would light up a room.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Alberto Mendoza of Abilene three daughters and sonsinlaw, Diana and Manuel DeLaCruz Jr. of Abilene, Estella and Simon DeLaCruz of Trent and Irma and Mario Gil Jr. of Abilene her brother, Faustino Lerma Jr. and wife Minerva of Hamby 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and two sisters, Belen Cardonita and Maria Abigail Arrerdondo preceded her in death.
Pallbearers for the service are Bernabe Mendoza Jr., Raul Mendoza, Edward Cardonita, Faustino Lerma III, Luis Lerma and Bob Smith Ison. Honorary Pallbearers are Manuel DeLaCruz III, Hunberto Diaz Jr., Julian Diaz, Alex Mendoza Jr., and Sonny Lopez.
Since Marthas heart attack in 2004, the family has been blessed with tremendous help from many people. A heartfelt thanks is sent to Dr. Sam Daggubati, the staff of Hendrick Hospice Care especially Leslie Bogess, Outreach Healthcare Services, her home health aide, Arnessa Tyler, the staff of Hendrick Medical Supply, the staff of United Pharmacy on N. 10th and Willis and all the first responders who came to her aid numerous times over the years.
