Marvin Orie Hamer, 76, of Abilene went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30th, 2014 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family following his battle with lung cancer.
Visitation will be from 68 pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Elmwood Funeral Home with Chaplain Burt Williams of Hospice of the Big Country officiating. Interment will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene.
Marvin was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 13th, 1938. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1957. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the Air Force. After 22 years of service to his country and tour of duty during the Vietnam War he retired with full honors.
Marvin is survived by his brother, George Hamer and spouse Dorothy Hamer, former wife and friend, Catalina Stefanski, his daughter, Evangeline Arocho and spouse Louis Arocho, sons, Donald Hamer, Joseph Hamer and spouse Leigh Ann Hamer, seventeen grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by both of his parents, Orie Ellis Hamer and Mildred Ann Hamer, his children, Wesley Raymond Hamer, Corrie Ann Hamer and Michael Marvin Hamer.
Marvin had a strong faith and belief system, loved his family, friends and country. He was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Marvin would welcome anyone with a smile and had a witty attitude he was a great man. In his 37 years residing in Abilene, he was well respected and known by many. He will be greatly missed.
