Mary Jo Cole passed away May 9, 2018. A time of visitation and remembrance will be 1:00PM - 2:00PM Monday May 14, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will follow beginning at 2:00PM in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South conducted by Reverend Mark Taylor of Faith Lutheran Church in Plano.
Mary Jo was born May 7, 1928 to Mocking and Viola Gray in Stamford, Texas. She was baptized into Christ at Calvary Baptist of Stamford as a small child. Mary Jo met Odis Cole in Stamford, Texas and they were married June 7, 1943 in Anson, Texas. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage just months before Odis was called home on October 21, 1993. They moved to Abilene in 1948 and Mary Jo was a member of the community until she moved in 2013 to be close to her daughter in Murphy, Texas. She was a faithful member of University Baptist Church of Abilene until she moved and became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Plano. She enjoyed attending bible study and church events. Mary Jo loved to play cards and games with friends, read and to garden but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a selfless Mother, Mimi, and Aunt Mary Jo; consistently put her family's needs before her own.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Odis E. Cole; grandson, Sgt. Wesley R. Durbin; special nephew, Coy S. Cole; and sister, Helen Horn.
Mary Jo is survived by her children, John E. Cole and wife Sharon, Ronald L. Cole and wife Jan; and Carole J. Durbin and favorite son in law Randy; grandchildren, Teri Newsom, Paul Cole, Kenny Durbin, and Dylan Cole; two great grandchildren; and special great nephew, Jud Cole. In addition Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews and loving in-laws.
Pallbearers for the service will be grandson's Kenny Durbin, Paul Cole, Dylan Cole, Jud Cole, Scott Newsom, and Will Newsom.
