Mary Mccombs

July 29, 1932 — September 2, 2015

Mary Rae McCombs, 83 of Abilene passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in Fort Worth, TX.

A celebration of Life Service honoring Mary Rae McCombs will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 3 PM at Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 South 27th St. Abilene, TX. A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park that morning.

Mary was born on July 29, 1932 in Abilene, daughter of Ray and Tomella McLaren Pope. She lived in the small Texas towns of Anson and Big Springs as a child, and moved to Abilene as a youth. Mary was a graduate of Abilene High School. She married Howard Frank McCombs on March 19, 1954 and they shared 61 years of love and life together.

On the morning of September 2nd, Mary went to celebrate with her two babies who preceded her in death, Tonya's twin sister, Tina Marie and son, Rob Ray.
Mary is survived by her husband, Frank; 2 daughters, Lynda Pattillo and husband Bobby of Abilene, Tonya Kaerwer and husband Floyd of Potosi; five granddaughters, Robbie and husband Mike, Mandy and husband Max, Missy and husband Nich, Cassy and husband Scott, Kristy and husband Chris, and 1 grandson, McCade. She took great pride in her 7 great grandchildren, Ryan, Chloe, Adison, "Mary" Elizabeth, Kylie, Brennon, Kate and one on the way. She loved and was survived by her brother, Tommy Pope and wife Jo; brother-in-law, Clinton and wife Betty; a daughter's good friend who was like a daughter to her, Diane Walker and husband Ricky; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary had an extraordinarily deep love for her family and friends, but she would take any of them on in a competitive game of 42! She had an unusually special way with animals, and enjoyed spending time at the Potosi ranch watching and feeding the horses, cows, birds and many other creatures who found their way there. Gazing at the moon and stars late at night, with a bag of popcorn in her lap, was one of her favorite past times. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the Dallas Cowboys! Known to her family as "mother", "granny" and great-granny", Mary was dearly loved and her sweet smile and disposition will be greatly missed, until the time we see her once again!
