Mary Young

February 20, 1922 — August 2, 2010

Mary Elizabeth Young, 88, was welcomed into the arms of her savior Monday, August 02, 2010.

She was born Feb. 20, 1922 in Cuthand, Texas and was a graduate of North Texas Teachers College in Denton. Mary was a high school English teacher in several towns, including Bowie, Texas, where she met her future husband, Garland C. Young.
She ended her teaching career to begin a family in 1949. The Young family moved to Abilene in 1959.

She was cherished by her family and was a superb homemaker, avid seamstress and worldclass pie maker. Mary also was a member of Woodlawn Church of Christ for nearly 30 years and volunteered with the Christian Service Center in Abilene.

She was preceded in death by Garland in 1986.

She leaves behind a son, David Young of Lubbock daughter, Denise Hufstedler and her husband Duane Hufstedler of Abilene grandsons Geoffrey Hufstedler of Abilene and Adam Young and his wife Glenys Young of Lubbock and granddaughter Lauren Johnson and her husband Jeremiah Johnson of Abilene. She is also survived by her brother John Webb of Arlington.

Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Highway 277 South. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
