Mattie L. Vinson, 88, went home to be with our Lord on June 11, 2009. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 15 at the Potosi Baptist Church with burial following in Potosi Cemetery.
Mattie was born in Jones County on November 17, 1920 to A.M. and Exa Daniel the youngest of three girls. As a young lady she worked for the NYA in Abilene, in the lunch room at Potosi Schools, for Hendrick Hospital, and in 1970 began working for the Wylie Baptist Daycare. She eventually decided to keep kids in her home leaving many who stayed with the memory of Matties kitchen. On December 21, 1944, Mattie married J. Roscoe Vinson and lived happily on their farm in Potosi until February of 2009. She worked hard all of her life doing everything from heavy field work to quilting, sewing, gardening and canning. Mattie joined Potosi Baptist Church on May 11, 1941 and until her death was the oldest living member of this church she dearly loved.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Reeh and husband, E.A. of Waelder; five granddaughters, Desiree Southall of Pflugerville, Whitney Fidler of Arizona, Tara Deathridge of Waller, Toni Harvey of Abilene and Kelly Morgan of Dallas; seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her partner of 47 years, Roscoe, her son, Joe, her parents, and her sisters, Emma Dell Griffith of Paint Creek and Juanita Zachry of Abilene preceded her in death.
