Maureen Beth Fisher, a remarkable woman whose love and spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born in Amsterdam, New York on April 20, 1950. Her father was an active duty United States Air Force member, settling in Abilene in the 1970s. Maureen spent her early adult life raising two children as a military spouse in locations around the world, and then chose to call Abilene her permanent home in 2005.
Her lifelong passion for nursing began as a Medical Service Technician in the United States Air Force Reserves in 1982. She then decided to pursue a full-time nursing career, in addition to her military service, by earning her Associates of Science in Nursing degree from McMurry University in 1994. Serving her country in the military and serving others as a healthcare professional brought Maureen true fulfillment and joy.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Hollie Gutierrez (Adolfo), and her treasured son, Dennis Boyd (Sharla). Maureen was the proud grandmother of Brenna (Hank), Brien (Edith), Bradly, Jacob, and Tristan, and a loving great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her adored younger sister, Alicia Detar (Larry), and several nieces and nephews who will forever remember the warmth of her love.
Maureen was predeceased by her loving parents, Charles and Norma Fisher, her cherished older sister, Claudia Oliphant, and her sweet nieces, Raquel and Anita.
A lover of adventure, Maureen found joy traveling and going on cruises, knitting and crocheting, making lasting memories with her family and friends. She was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and a dedicated supporter of the Denver Broncos. Most importantly, she shared her home with countless cats over the years, each bringing her joy and comfort.
In celebration of her life, Maureen's family will host a series of gatherings. On May 9, 2025, family and friends are invited to the Funeral Home Chapel for a visitation at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. An encore livestream with social media will also be available, allowing those unable to attend in person to join in the celebration of Maureen's remarkable life.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, please consider potted plants or make a donation to Hendrick Hospice Care in honor of her memory.
