Meda Christine Colwell, 96, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012. There will be a visitation on Monday, December 10, 2012, from 5:007:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home. The graveside service is Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Memorial Parks Garden of Meditation. Christine was born on October 24, 1916, to George Wesley Crabtree and Mamie Crabtree in Hawley, TX. She grew up in Abilene and attended Abilene public schools and also Blum and Morgan schools. She married James Isaiah Colwell on March 26, 1935. Christine worked for Doyles Caf and her sister, Jimmie Coleman in her early years. She later went into business with her husband, James, doing business as Colwell Construction Company. She was a lifelong member of Oak Street Methodist, renamed Fairmont Methodist, and later renamed Southwest Drive United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school for 30 years. She belonged to the United Methodist Women for 78 years. She was also a member of the Abilene Garden Club for 20 years. There was no greater mother than MeMaw in the world. She was Gods angel sent from heaven for us. She is our inspiration in life.
Christine is survived by son Philip and wife Linda Colwell of Abilene, daughter Penny and husband Eddie Adams of Abilene two grandchildren Shane and wife Diane Adams of Lubbock, Shelley and husband Robert Hilliard of North Highlands, CA five greatgrandchildren Ashley, Justin, and Berkeley Adams of Lubbock, TX and Chelsea and Autumn Hilliard of North Highlands, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, sisters Myrtle Henry Antilley, Maud C.D. Carter, Mable Pat Patterson, Julia Charlie Dodson, Jimmie Dick Coleman, Blanche D.O. Deaver, and one brother Charlie Crabtree.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Hendrick Hospice Care, and Abilene Humane Society.
