Melanie Atkins

Melanie "Mel" Atkins, 74, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 in Abilene.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 1 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd, Abilene, TX 79606.

Mel was born on May 9, 1944 in Athens Ohio and was one of four children of the late Earnest "Ted" Wood and Emma Roach Wood. She married Chris Atkins July 8, 1983. Mel enjoyed scrapbooking and traveling. She was skilled in the art of Hillbilly Foo and you always new where you stood with her. Her grandchildren will miss their "Baka". Mel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Women's Social Ministry.

Mel is survived by her husband, Chris Atkins; daughter, Kristen Foster and husband Adam; grandchildren, Hunter Thornton, Laramie Hodges and Pistol Foster; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mel was also preceded in death by her 3 siblings, Tommie Lou Burchfield, Ted Wood and Bill Wood.

Services are under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home.
