Mildred Rogge

Mary Mildred Powers Rogge passed away on 10 July 2024 in Abilene surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Lloyd H. and Dora Soucey Powers and was born in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas, on 15 October 1924, growing up in Blanket, Brown County, Texas. In high school Mildred was involved in FFA and girls basketball. During World War II, Mildred lived in Dallas and worked at the North American Aviation plant, located near Hensley Field and later became Grand Prairie Naval Air Station in 1943, produced AT-6 Texan trainers and the P-51 Mustang fighter. After the war ended and the North American plant closed, Mildred moved to Abilene and began her long career as a secretary working for such businesses as the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Elmwood Cemetery, Dr. Frank Conselman, Tilton Oil Co., First State Bank, and finally for West Texas Utilities from which she retired.

She met Clifton F. Rogge in Abilene when he was visiting his father's place of business located next door to the Chamber of Commerce office. Clifton and Mildred were married 06 April 1947, in Blanket, Texas. During their marriage, they raised three children: Clifton, Jr., Mary Madeline, and Richard L., of whom they were very proud.

Mildred is predeceased by her husband, Clifton F. Rogge; her parents, Lloyd H. and Dora Soucey Powers; a sister, Francis Louise Powers Stitts; a sister-in-law, Billie Mae Rogge Bilhartz; a granddaughter, Robbyn D. Staton and a nephew, Michael L. Bilhartz

Mildred is survived by her three children: Clifton Jr (Fred) and wife Shari Baker Rogge of Abilene, Dr. Mary Rogge of Abilene, and Richard and wife Merrie Thompson Rogge of Merkel; three grandsons, Clifton Rogge III of Nashotah, Wisconsin, James Rogge of Burleson, Texas, and Chris Harding of Aubrey, Texas; one granddaughter, Diana Rogge MaGouirk of Abilene, and one great-grandson, Jarred MaGouirk of Abilene. She is also survived by two nieces, Jeanne Stitts Davis of Abilene and Teresa Bilhartz Venema of Georgetown, Texas; as well as two nephews, Jerry Stitts of High Point, North Carolina, and Maj. (Ret.) Gregory Bilhartz of Round Rock, Texas.

Visitation will be at Elmwood Memorial Funeral home on Monday, 15 July, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, with graveside funeral services to be held Tuesday, 16 July, at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Memorial Park.
