She graduated from East High School in 1940 and Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education in 1944. She began her career teaching 3rd grade in Canton, Ohio for two years. While working at a Campfire Girls Camp in Dallas, she met the love of her life, Herb. After he returned from WWII, they were married in 1946 and moved to Lamesa, TX where they opened and operated Roberts Studio. After a very successful time in Lamesa, they purchased Thurman's Studio in Abilene which later became and is still operated as Roberts Studio. Miriam was an artist and enjoyed painting on the portraits. She said "Herb made the pictures and I framed and sold them". She was very involved in the community and was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years.

She enjoyed staying busy and was a member of the Garden Club, where she held several different offices including president throughout the years, Bridge Clubs, Study Club, Women's Club, and the Altrusa. Two of her most enjoyable hobbies were working in the yard with Herb and researching her families through genealogy. Her family was very important to her whether she was cooking for them, traveling, or having everyone over and entertaining them.

She is survived by her three sons, Ken Roberts and wife Robin of Abilene, Gary Roberts and wife Mary of Petal, MS, Jay Roberts of Abilene; six grandchildren, Kristen Hamilton and husband Whitney, Amy Riggs and husband Bobby, Tiffany Roberts, Earley Ullrich, Emily Roberts, Sam Roberts; three great-grandchildren, Mikayla Hamilton, Tiernan Hamilton, and one on the way, Renley Hamilton; and one sister-in-law, Jody Roberts.
