Mitchell Ingram

Mitchell J. Ingram, 89, of Abilene, Texas passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10 AM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mitchell was born on October 13, 1928 in Cottonwood to the late Laura Woody Ingram and Sam Ingram, the oldest of four children. He attended school in Cottonwood and Cross Plains and worked helping his parents with the family farm. He moved to Abilene to begin a job as a truck driver. He married Mary Tarpley in August of 1960. His trucking career began with Sunset Motor Lines, and then moved to ICX as their freight agent. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union. After a short retirement, he went back to work transporting senior citizens for the city of Abilene. He spent many summer vacations at Lake Brownwood camping and boating with family. Mitchell was a longtime member of Broadview Baptist Church. He and Mary loved to travel having taken several cruises, they were constantly on the go visiting Hawaii, Colorado, Branson South Padre and Galveston.

He is survived by daughters, Lisa and husband Richard Arrington, Karen and husband Sammy Davis, Sharon and husband Jerry Don Smith and son, Gary of Houston; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Christine Webb of Abilene; brother, John Ingram of Midland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary; sister, Lavina Shepherd and great grandson, Zachary Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mesa Springs and Hendrick Hospice for their gracious care during his final time with us.
