Murry Schroeder

December 21, 1923 — June 8, 2013

Murry Reed Schroeder, 89, passed away June 8, 2013 in Abilene. Visitation will be 5:00 till 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Murry was born December 21, 1923 in Sagerton, TX to parents, Louis and Alma Helwig Schroeder. He graduated from Sagerton High School and soon joined the United States Navy in 1943. He served our country honorably in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the 116th N.C.Bs Seabees occupation in Sasebo, Japan. After the war he returned home to begin farming and working in the family business. He married Ruby Sanders in 1959 they lived in Stamford, TX before relocating to Abilene, TX in the late 1960s. He began working for the Civil Service Department of the U.S. Government where he retired after 20 years of service.
Murry enjoyed woodworking, repairing lawnmowers, hunting, and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and was a past commander of the VFW.
Murry is survived by three children, Dianna L Muehlstein of Abilene, Steven Schroeder and wife Debra of Abilene, Terry Schroeder and wife Kayla of North Richland Hills seven grandchildren, Jimmy L. Muehlstein and wife Cryst, Matt S. Muehlstein, Chuck W. Muehlstein and wife Kristi, Brent Schroeder, Tyler Schroeder, Teah Schroeder, Tanner Schroeder five great grandchildren, Sydney, Abby, Bailey, Jacob, Jared several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby two sisters, Alma Dippel, Edna Anderson five brothers, Cecil, Leon, Willie, Jim, J.C.
The family would like to thank, Hendrick Hospice Care, Home Instead, and Dr. Trauth and staff for the great care and compassion they showed during this difficult time.
