Nancy L. Hunter, 81, of Abilene, went to be with Jesus and her husband on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 1, 2021 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jeffrey Fenwick officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, from 2-4 pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021 for visitation.
Nancy was born on March 11, 1940, in Red River County, Texas. She retired from the Abilene ISD Transportation Department after 26 years. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great grandkids, and hosting holiday events at her home. She also enjoyed her daily walks with her dog, Cinnamon, her monthly outings with past coworkers, scrapbooking, gardening, and hanging out with her sister/partner in crime, Lavone. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Jesus Saves Church).
Nancy loved life and her family. She was an amazing person, with a heart of gold, who accepted everyone with open arms and treated everyone like family. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and the absolute best mawmaw.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert A. “Bob” Hunter; her parents Joe Bailey and Emily Virgie Rushing; her brother JB; her three sisters Bobbie, Shirley, and Dodie.
Survivors include her two daughters, Diana Braswell of Abilene and Lynda and husband Greg Robertson of Hamby; four grandchildren, Misti and husband Manuel Acosta, Amanda and husband Daniel McKee, Ryan and wife Crisinda Robertson, and Amber and husband Shane Courson; seven great grandsons, Ares, Jarrod, Ethan, Gavin, Robert, Aiden, and Chance; seven great granddaughters, Matzy, Ebonni, McKennah, Carley, Alyssia, Paizley, and McKinley; and four great great grandchildren, Ayden, Nathan Jr, Noah, and Nova; sister, Lavone Gowen of Rowlette.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for all the prayers, love, and support they have received, and to Elmwood Funeral Home for their kindness and hospitality.
