Naydene B. Daniel, 93, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 in Abilene. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 17th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. J Shea Leach will officiate.
Naydene was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on October 25, 1918 the daughter of Russell Edgar Bowles and Zella Grace Barry Bowles. Her family moved to Tyler, Texas in 1930 where her father owned a jewelry store. She graduated from Tyler High School and majored in Fine Arts at Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority and the Honorary Art Fraternity El Madje. On September 30, 1940 Naydene married James Jim Hugh Daniel in Tyler. Naydene and Jim came to Abilene in 1948 after Jim took a position with First National Bank in the oil drilling department. He later owned and operated J.B. Drilling Company.
Naydene was a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the community through Junior League of Abilene, the YWCA Board, Pierian Study Club, Pensadorea Club, Volunteer Bureau and the Noah Project Board. She volunteered with the Cancer Drive, Heart Association Drive and the United Way. Naydene enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of various bridge clubs.
Survivors include her cousins, Alberta Fleming and husband Frank, and Joan Graham and husband Dale all of Litchfield, Illinois and her niece, Patricia Bowles Cooper and husband Buddy of Briggs, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James H. Daniel and her brother, Russell Bowles.
Family and friends of Naydene would like to thank, Dr. Sandy Hazelip, Judith Daniels, Hendrick Hospice Care and The Ladies and Gentlemen at Wisteria Place for their loving care and companionship during her last years of life.
