Nell Gillit, 79, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010 in Abilene. Her funeral service with Pastor David Cason officiating will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 5th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in the Garden of Ten Commandments at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Nell and her twin sister Bell were born in Weinert, Texas on Christmas Day, 1930 to William Crim Mansker and Nora Jones Mansker. She graduated from Weinert High School and after her marriage to Doyle Gillit she moved to Abilene where she worked many years at Caseys Barn Door and later Victors Welding Supply. Nell was active with the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 where she was a past Commander and Chaplain and was a member of Broadview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Lanell Campbell of Salado one brother, Don Mansker and wife Becky of Rotan two grandchildren, Shane Scarborough and wife Kim of Abilene and Kristi Scarborough of Lubbock 3 great grandchildren to whom she was a loving GG, Evan, Ethan and Ella Scarborough and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband of 47 years, her twin sister, Bell Kirby and three brothers, Bill, Johnny and Bob preceded her in death.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford Dr., Abilene, TX 79605.
