Nita Barker

Nita F. Barker, 92, passed away January 5, 2017 in Abilene. Graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday January 10th at 2:00 PM in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South, with Rev. Mark Etheridge officiating.

Nita was Born on October 22, 1924 in Eastland Texas, she graduated from Olden High School, Ranger Jr. College and Harris School of Nursing. She married George A. Barker Jr., the love of her life, on June 26, 1943 in May Texas. They were together for 55 years before he preceded her in death. She worked with Dr. Royce Pruett as a registered nurse for over 30 years where she touched the lives of many people. She was a member of University Baptist Church.

Even during her declining health, she continued to brighten lives at Covenant Place, Mesa Springs and Hendrick Hospice Care with her wit and lively manner.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen Barker of McKinney; two grandchildren, Brandon Barker of Plano and Carson Barker of Austin; and a great grandson Caleb Barker of Plano.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Ben Richey Boys Ranch in Nita's honor.
