Nora Riewe Schkade went home to her Father April 5, 2010 after a sudden brain hemorrhage. She lived a blessed 85 years. Visitation will be from 5 till 7 PM on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd. Abilene, TX 79606, with interment following at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Nora was born March 17, 1925 in Indian Gap, Texas to Edwin L. and Ella Reue Riewe. She married Oscar Schkade May 5, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pottsville, Texas. In 1952, after moving around West Texas as Oscar pursued his profession in the oil fields, they settled in Abilene. She became a member of Zion Lutheran Church at that time. Over the years she shared her Christianity through teaching confirmation classes, Sunday school, vacation bible school, singing soprano in the choir, volunteering in the church office, participating as a member of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League along with a myriad of other volunteer services. Her kindness and generosity could always be relied on.
She was the devoted wife of Oscar L. Schkade as well as a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. She was a multitalented homemaker in a God centered home. Relatives and friends loved her hospitality and enjoyed her cooking and baking. She enjoyed sewing and won 1st place and Best of Show with her crochet in the West Texas Fair. She had a passion for working with her plants. Any season you could find her outside tending to her beautiful flower gardens, caring for the lawn and trees and giving attention to the birds and butterflies who were frequent visitors.
Along with her husband, Oscar Schkade, she is survived by her son and daughterinlaw, Brent and Cindy Schkade of Abilene and their daughter, Kristi Schkade of Denton, Texas. Also survived by her daughter and sonin law, Sandra and Jerry Storey of Abilene and their children, Shawn and Jill Storey of Plano, Texas with children Caroline of Plano, Texas and Cameron of New York City Tiffany and Howard Miller of Flower Mound, Texas and children Taylor and Cason also of Flower Mound, Texas daughter Toni Storey of Richardson, Texas daughter and soninlaw Gerri Storey and Steve White of Nashville, Tenn. with daughter Brianna and husband Mark Comeaux of Franklin, Louisiana and daughter Brittany Brasseaux of New Orleans, Louisiana. Other survivors include sister, Valerie Kopp and husband William of Freeport, Texas brother Clarence Riewe and wife Mildred of League City, Texas.
Preceded in death by brother Emmanuel Riewe and wife Clara, brother Melvin Riewe and wife Marian and infant sister Cora Riewe and parent E.L. and Ella Riewe
Pall bearers include Ricky Law, Jerry Eichhorst, Wayne Lanham, Art Gazaille, Aloys Nzeyimana and John McAden.
