Norris C. Crittenden, 82 of Abilene died Sunday, December 14 at home. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all that knew him.
A visitation with the family will be held Wednesday December 17 at 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at the Minda Street Church of Christ, 701 Minda Street, Abilene, TX at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18. Burial will follow at ElliottHamil Garden of Memories.
He was born to the late James and Marylou Crittenden, September 9, 1932 in Boley, Oklahoma. Norris was educated in Boley and later moved to Chicago, Ill where he met and married Mildred Paden. They were married in 1965 and resided in Evanston, Ill until relocating to Abilene in 2008.
Norris was a long time member of the Monroe St. Church of Christ in Chicago where he served as a Youth Ministry Director for 20 years. He was instrumental in cultivating young men and women for the ministry. He held sessions each week where the youth were taught to pray, read scripture, and speak publically. He later served the Monroe St. Congregation as the Ministry leader for the Senior Saints where he organized travel to events such as Lectureship, Crusade, and out of town sightseeing tours for the senior citizens. After relocating to Abilene he was a faithful member of the Minda St. Church of Christ family.
For nearly 30 years Norris worked for the City of Evanston Parks Dept as a heavy equipment operator. After retirement he was certified to provide assisted living to the elderly in the Evanston community.
Norris was an avid Rodeo fan and enjoyed horseback riding in his younger days. His wardrobe included a collection of cowboy hats, custom western boots, and bolo ties.
Norris was preceded in death by his Parents, his brothers Jimmie Lee Crittenden, Jean Crittenden, James Crittenden, a sister Margie Roseboro, and two sons, Duane Paden of Placitas, New Mexico and George Paden of Evanston, Ill.

He is survived by his sister S. JoAnn Jefferson of Denver, CO. and his brother David Crittenden of Bowie, MD., two sons Charles Paden of Indianapolis Indiana, and Earl Paden of Clearlake, California, and one daughter Noreen White of Abilene TX. He is also survived by over 20 grand and greatgrand children and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
