It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Oscar Salas, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, who departed from this world on March 19, 2025, at the age of 59. Oscar was born on August 16, 1965, and he spent his life in Lubbock and Abilene, Texas, where he became known as a humble and independent landscaper, dedicated to his craft and to the beauty of nature.
Oscar was a man of many admirable traits; he was characterized by his big heart, his unwavering courage, and his contagious smile that could light up any room. He took immense pride in his family, which included his sons, Charles Arrizola (Crystal) and Esteban Salas (Jasmine), as well as his daughters, Briana Salas and Bianca Salas and his 17 grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving mom, Berta Salas, two sisters, Olga Contreras (Benny), and Lolly Salas, his significant other Monica Gaona and countless nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Filomeno Salas, his brother Filomeno Salas Jr. (Philp Jr.), and his grandson, Anthony Salas.
Oscar loved music and had a passion for family gatherings, where laughter and joy were always at the forefront. He enjoyed playing pool, often seen challenging friends and family to a friendly game, bringing everyone together through his love of sport and camaraderie.
His independence and resolve were apparent in every aspect of his life; Oscar was not afraid of anything, tackling challenges head-on with determination and a sense of humor that inspired many.
Funeral services will be held on March 22, 2025, at the Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the official funeral service at 2:00 PM.
