Otis Carlton "O.C." Sumner, 95, passed away May 21, 2021. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM, May 27, 2021 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene, TX.
Otis was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on June 9, 1925. With great ambition Otis joined the United States Navy as a teenager and proudly served his country during WWII. The Navy provided Otis a place to sleep and plenty of food so he saved all his earnings and when he left the Navy, he bought himself a truck and trailer to haul produce. Otis was a smart business man and turned his trucking company into a very prosperous endeavor. In the 1980's Otis and his beloved wife Eunice moved to Texas to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. When not working Otis and Eunice would travel all over the country, never having a plan, just going.
O.C had a little furry companion "Holley" and everywhere he went Holley was by his side. Otis was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Early, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; his wife; Eunice; and his daughter, Roxcie Ann Sumner.
Otis is survived by his daughter, Emma Carrie Sumner Dowman of Georgia; his granddaughter, La'Chelle Ruble and her husband Jeremiah; his grandson, Landon Mitchell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
