Paul Wimberley

February 18, 1929 — March 10, 2014

Paul E. Wimberley, 85, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 in Abilene. His funeral service with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 13th with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Paul was born in Strawn, Texas on February 18, 1929. After his father died when Paul was young, he worked hard to help his Mom support the family and joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 16. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service. Pauls second career began in 1970 working as a diesel mechanic for CorleyWetsel, FW Drilling and R.L. Anderson International. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder. After retiring a second time Paul was active volunteering for his community he received the volunteer of the year award for his work as an Ombudsman and from the Air Force Sgt. Association, was a regular volunteer at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo, served meals to Veterans and homeless on Thanksgiving, and was a regular donor at Meek Blood Center. Paul enjoyed square dancing, traveling and was a licensed gunsmith who loved tinkering with guns.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Harris Wimberley of Abilene his children, Robert Eugene Bob Wimberley and wife Sherry of Abilene, Paulett Rozneck and husband Steve of Lubbock his stepson, Michael Harris of Abilene his grandson, Aaron Rozneck of Lubbock stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Julie and Jessica of Dallas sisters, Frankie Leach of Ranger, Jackie Rextroat of Dallas and Ruth Atkins of Dallas brothers, Clark Ted Wimberley of Wichita Falls, and Troy Gene Wimberley of California.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Wimberley in 2005, his brother, Jessie Wimberley, his sister, Eddie Marie Cook and his brotherinlaw, Leon Pokey Ireland.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church Debt Reduction Fund, 2801 Antilley Rd, Abilene, TX 79606.
