Philip Wade Calhoun, 74, departed this world on August 13, 2013, and is now with his heavenly father. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Cross Plains. Visitation for family and friends will be from 68 PM on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Elmwood. Rev. Ernie Knight will officiate the service.
Wade was born April 9, 1939 in Del Rio, Texas to DenverDick and Ruth Speed Calhoun. He grew up and graduated in Anson. Texas. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Army and received an honorable discharge in 1967. He worked in Houston for awhile before moving back to Abilene. He married Verna Thomas Andrews on February 15, 1976 in Abilene. Wade worked for the Abilene Fire Department for 20 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a very devoted family man and was a member of Beltway Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Verna of Abilene two sons, Troy Calhoun and wife Lois of Gainesville, Corby Andrews of Abilene two daughters, Melody Russell and husband Billy of Springfield, MO, Shelia Beasley and husband Terry of Mabank, TX two brothers, Stanley Calhoun and wife Myrna of Houston, Chester Calhoun and wife Nancy of Abilene one sister, Geraldine Pickens and her husband of Marble Falls, TX and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents infant son, Philip Jr and daughter Jeannie.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to IntegraCare Hospice, 1665 Antilley Rd, Ste 100, Abilene TX, 79606.
Wade was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed beyond description, as well as his sense of humor.
