Phillip Allen Leonhart, 58, of Hawley, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at his home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM and his Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 11:30 AM, both at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will follow at the Texas Veterans Cemetery, Monday, April 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
Phillip was born February 1, 1959 in Okinawa, Japan to Robert and Jo Nan Leonhart. Phillip was raised in a military family who moved from Salina Kansas, to Burns Flat Oklahoma, and finally to Abilene Texas. He is a graduate of Abilene Cooper High School and McMurry University. Phillip served his country with the United States Air Force for twenty years. He was stationed in Las Vegas Nevada, Amsterdam Netherlands, San Antonio TX, Minot ND, Incirlik Turkey, and Wichita Falls TX. He also served in deployments to Bosnia and Africa. After retiring from the military, he worked as a warehouse manager with News Group Company and then Beavex Express Courier Service as a terminal manager in Lubbock and Abilene Texas. He had a passion for bowling; the first Abilene Youth bowler to bowl a 300, and the Bowler of the Year 2013, Abilene Texas,
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leonhart. Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of Hawley; daughter Kelly, of Moore, OK and son, Dustin, of Midland, TX. His mother, Jo Nan; brothers, Robert and Bill, and sister, Betty. Grandchildren Mason and Carson; and Monroe and Nolan.
